STEM Astoria, Youth Event

STEM Astoria participants will learn about invertebrates and habitats using the XKids program from the Xerces Society.

This will also begin a series of “Making and Tinkering with STEM: Solving Design Challenges with Young Children” endorsed by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. Tinkering Making, and Engineering introduce and solidify concepts, spark creativity, build resiliency, and foster problem solving abilities. The first activity is BUG CITY inspired by Roberto: The Insect Architect by Nina Laden. STEM Astoria participants will design and engineer a large bug city using a variety of materials.

Participation Fee: $20 per STEM Astoria Participant
Located at Lumen, 1350 Exchange Street, Astoria, Oregon

The Xerces Society was founded by Dr. Robert Pyle, a Yale alumni who mentored me when I was in elementary school. We remain friends today.
